LYRICS Story:

One of my Dad's favorite stories was of the new young preacher assigned to a little
country church. A “pillar of the church” had a reputation of driving out anyone who disagreed with his thinking. So he soon invited the preacher to dinner, outlined to the preacher all the “gifts” of other church people... the lady who was “OK” in music, the ones who could handle rowdy kids (like their own), those who made mistakes in church records, so-so teachers (& the ones who should be replaced).

Finally the preacher asked, “So what is YOUR gift to offer God?”...

The man replied: “God gave me the Gift of Criticism.

When I see something wrong, I go tell the person.”... and I warn other people, of course.

The young pastor silently prayed, then asked, “You remember Jesus's parable of the talents?” The man proudly said “Yes!”, expecting praise as a 10-talent guy. The preacher asked, “Do you remember what the man with only 1 talent did with it?” “

Of course!” the man scoffed: He just went & buried it!”... The preacher quietly finished: “May I suggest that you “Go & do likewise”?....

It still feels like my spring of life, no older than I was before. Old age

STEP 2, Mark 11: 23 _ / When you pray, believe and speak. _
STEP 3, Mark 11: 24 _ / Believe you can trust God's Word. _
STEP 4, Mark 11: 25, if you/ won't _ forgive others, you won't be_ heard by God. _
STEP 5, Mark 11: 29,Trust that/ ALL authority belongs to God. _
STEP 6, go back to Verse 17. ASK: What's your motive in this prayer? Is God pleased?

Horses and peope each think they know best. So both get in terrible trouble.
Horses and people have this in common: They struggle to get control – and SUFFER.

PART 1

Horses won't come if they choose not to come, though you
see a bad storm and call to warn. They'll
puff out their bellies to loosen your saddle, and
walk against trees to knock you off.

Horses throw back their heads or fight the reins, just to
try to show you “you're not the boss of them.” They'll
pull toward danger, but ignore your warnings. You try to save them.
They try to knock you off.

People won't come if they simply don't want. God has
urged them, “Please come” Choose Life. My Way's safe.” They'll
puff up their Pride. Ignoring Bible warnings. They deny God exists,
and is BOSS, so they fight.

People throw back their heads, see God, but scoff.
They refuse to see storms you've warned them will come. They
pull toward danger, because it looks like pleasure. They
deny God is Right, and argue and mock you.

There is no arguing with horses. 'Cause
horses are big and real stubborn. And you
can't make horses drink even if they're dying of thirst.

Theres no point arguing with people. That's
what God says: Titus 3:9 and on. Like for
horses, people often won't listen-- even if they see Proof. .

Yes, warn people. Yes, pray for them. But EVEN JESUS could not
convince most people to listen to His Words of Life.
The end of Matthew 23 shows Jesus even wept for them. In His parable of
the Rich man and Lazarus, Jesus tells how the rich man YEARNS to warn
his brothers who are still living.... Luke 16: (20 on),
“And being in torments in Hades, [The Rich man] lifted up his eyes
and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom....
Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would

LYRICS Story:

A sad song story, to me... Written alone with God at a church altar at 6:30 A.M.,

and then the music written at the sanctuary piano by 7:15....

The weekly prayer time for this church of 250 members (120 regular attendees in
two services) had been at 6 A.M., just minutes earlier.
Only 2 other persons showed up: 2 leaders “above me”, so I didn't lead prayers.
Usual attendance was one more person... 2 more at most... out of the 120.
The church was in the midst of many meetings about changing the worship times...
very emotionally charged meetings with many “private” discussions outside church.

YET: As usual, none of the prayers were about that or other intense issues,
• not seeking wisdom,
• not seeking protection for Satan's attempts to divide the church,
• not seeking God's help in stopping all the gossip going around,
• not seeking God's help for soothing all the bitterness that was building up,
• not praying for church teachers, or worship leaders, or the pastor & wife,
• not praying to reach people outside the church,
• not praying for ideas on how to reach more children & youth.......

THE ONLY prayers were, quote, “for the preschool, and for our government”.

And my prayers that I HAD TO INSIST on adding out loud,

going down my written list, for each of my high school &
college age Sunday School students.... for which once again I'd gotten the comment
before we started prayers at 6:00, of “You're going to pray your list again?”

That's a quote from my journal, written on knees at the altar, after a prayer time
that ended at 6:08 A.M..... eight minutes after it began with 1% of the church members
coming together to seek help from the LORD of All Creation – and of our church.

As I wrote these final lines in my journal there at the altar, the words of this song
came to me immediately.... and the music moments later.... A SAD song to me....
but an important one:

God helps those who humbly ASK Him for help.
True for individual people.... for churches...

God expects us to set aside pride
& expectation in our own skills & knowledge. NO: God does NOT
“help those who help themselves.”

God helps those who
DEPEND HUMBLY ON MIGHTY GOD.
